Jaded, a lot of posts have been made on HC on a number of aspects; most recently by Pauldola - pity that there is no provision for giving multiple thumbs up to him .
One aspect that I do not think has been mentioned is the "iron ore analogy". It may be a decade or so ago but there was a great article that said the Pilbara contained enough iron to supply the world for 300 years - this is from memory. Or perhaps that Australia had enough to supply the world for 300 years. But "300 years" is what I recall vividly in the Australian context. The analogy is that the resource is a long-term resource.
Now granted you might say that there might be developments that might make graphite redundant! My comeback to this is that there has been talk that the same might apply to IO.
But we cannot make decisions based on what the future might or might not turn out to be or we will simply do nothing!!
There have been a number of excellent postings on HC about future use of graphite and the possible "exponential" increase in the nature of applications involving graphite. We really cannot undertake an analysis based on arguments that sometime in the future the use of graphite may be curtailed because of new discoveries.
While I too enjoy your reasoned and well thought out arguments, at times, I really do not think that we can make decisions based on the number of Kts of this, that and the other that may be required in the near future. I think we need to discuss this in the context of the "long-term" - some might call them "strategic context".
