While funding is important it is not the critical issue. If the burn contaminates the water table then the project would have to shut down. Kingaroy is under level 7 water restrictions. Kingaroy’s main dam (Bjelke-Petersen) is down to 2% and the back up dam (Boondooma) is down to 11%. Ground water will be very important to the survival of Kingaroy and indeed the entire SE QLD region. A successful UCG project will need to demonstrate that it has the right hydrogeological conditions to prevent contamination of the water table.
