i worked there until 1996 and it was still operating then but they had a lot of trouble with water flooding the lower levels. Particularly the 13th you could actually see water pouring out of the walls. Had mechanical problems with the winder due to the depth and the entire mine was always in very unstable ground. There were more rock bolts in the roof than actual rock. and due to the extremely high grade ore they had just chased veins with air leg drills for years. thing was rat holed to death. Good money for decent drillers back then though on about 2 grand a week.
