I see we have some self-appointed Dr Google mine engineers on this forum now. Do you have any evidence or documentation about 45 degree dipping orebodies being unminable by open pit? Do you know the strip ratio, the average gold grade of the ore, volume of ore and waste and mining costs for ore and waste? Lucky for us, today real mine engineers don't work on cross sections, and actually have 3D pit optimization software to optimize open pits and their economics.
Another sweeping generalization about Africa, there are many different countries within Africa, if you don't like Guinea then you'd better trot along to tell Rio Tinto, Anglo Gold Ashanti etc that they are in mortal danger as well because they, among others, operate in Guniea.
