It's true. Someone passed through my land to get to my neighbour's land to do some excavation work. They noticed some nice rocks at my place and got very interested until I told them they were bought in for landscaping purposes. They told me that they can apply for a mining exploration licence anywhere and have done so before. Freehold doesn't give you ownership of minerals beneath the soil. Fact. Contact the mining department of any state government and they will tell you the same thing.
