The statement on the presentation "Neu5Gc is not present in cancer-free humans" is incorrect. Humans cannot make Neu5Gc (do not have the gene for production of Neu5Gc). It is obtained from dietary sources, mainly meat and dairy and is somehow accumulated by cancer cells and may play an important role in localized chronic inflammation which helps cancer growth and spread. Experiments have shown it can be detected in cancer-free humans having eaten a rich source of Neu5Gc.
