They got more than a smack on the hand, they couldn't comply without going bankrupt, so they chose to not comply and ignored the EPA and court rulings. Everyone assumed they'd just abandoned the mine and the State would be left with the costs of rehabilitation. Not a good look when you turn around and want to start up again. The Greens took the EPA to court and won too. No matter how well Shree plays this out, they have to take into account legal costs because they'll be back in court.

With a state election having to take place in the next 12 months, I highly doubt politically they'll be trying to push this through before then. The noisy minority are very very vocal and well funded. Which is why I'm okay with waiting to see what the game plan is.
