If they tried to sell that volume of shares on market it would have driven the price down anyway, possibly below $1.50, and would have taken weeks to offload. Doing a block trade at such a discount gives them a quick exit and still a tidy relaied profit. As I said above they probably saw the $1.74 price as overvalued. I agree, the PR around the liquidity is judt trying to "put lipstick on a pig".
