In regards to why did AGL sell windfarms the... and interested now... IMO - its purely a result of change in Managing Directors.

previous one had foresight to develop the largest wind farm in Australia, plus many others with a view to ...

current one didnt like it / way AGL was headed... looked to sell off ownership and maintain output through (overpriced) PPA and have AGL explore diversification by investment in telephone / broadband / data... which is the existing path of many NZ based gentailers such as Trust, Mercury, Meridian, Genesis & Contact... tried to buy Vocus... bought Southern Telco... now back looking to see how they can reduce their costs of generation as coal plants profits continue to decline... enter solar & wind (again) via equity investment in holding vehicle.

Wind is a good generation asset - less intermittent generation than solar (as the wind can still blow at night) and cheaper per Mw than coal... TLT's portfolio of assets are all reasonably new and their development pipeline is excellent.... happy for AGL to access the output of these farms via PPAs... as long as they are suitably linked to NEM pricing via some form of mechanism.

What I really would like to see is some further direct investment in intermittent storage...
