Interested to see where this partnership goes. My new car watches the road and can recognise road lines, nudging me back to the centre of the lane if I drift too close to the line. However, as soon a the line disappears the function switches off. I can just imagine this combination being able to provide the same function but with the ability to detect the edge of the road surface based on curbing or even gravel, sand etc. It could also also open up off road autonomous driving, being able to negotiate ruts and boulders in the safest and most effective manner. I’m sure our NASA contacts would like a robot that can traverse MARS autonomously, intuitively knowing what holes it can climb into yet still get out of. Fascinating potential.
