I could only find this one reference to a group of scientists being able to cross the blood-brain barrier - and this is from late 2015, and they used micro bubbles of air activated by ultrasonic waves to push temporary holes in the wall of cells that form the barrier. They broke through the barrier physically opening up holes in the barrier to allow chemo drugs through. As I understand this announcement, we have been able to do it chemically by osmosis through the barrier.
