it was peter cook's baby. the project stalled when he left mlx (2016 demerger) and nickel prices were in the $h1ts.

yes, it is $2b+ capex, but cook was always of the view that wingellina was not an "if" but a "when" , once the right partner was found. It is development ready.

There's 168Mt of JORC ore reserves at 0.93% Ni grades, and 0.07% Cu. And scandium. That's a lot of metal. And it's a JORC reserve. Not indicated or inferrred.

Ni prices are on the rise. Currently at around $16k p/t which is the same level as when MLX acquired the project in 2004/5, and 50% off the lows in 2015/16. Musgrave region also getting some attention so infrastructure.

Don't get me wrong, it's not going to happen within 5 or 10 years and most definitely outside the investment horizon of HC punters. But no doubt, someone (spreadborough?) will be looking over this again to see if any value can be extracted from it.

There is growing interest in this area, just checkout this research paper by GMR about HPAL Ni/Co laterite projects, and NCZ's announcement re Goro (although they did walk away from the deal).
