Matty I really don't think you understand this end of the market or the multi-national element of the deal. This isn't an Australian listed ASX company dealing with an Australian exploration asset.. this is an Australian listed ASX company dealing with an exploration asset in the DRC (currently rated the highest risk area for mining investment) with lending interests through the UK as well. Timelines set by VEC have been highly ambitious at best so it's not surprising that we can't meet a deadline. It could be the case that, as you say, big fish are playing the market to accumulate at a lower sp, but unlikely. In either case if you are a long term holder you shouldn't be worried, we are shaking out the day traders and hopefully accumulating with more LT holders.
