You may have a bumpy ride down. Once the dust (ash?) settles, I think we need to ask ourselves the following:
Is fire risk going to be a significant risk going forwards, or is this an isolated incident? I assume Australia is getting hotter and drier as the years go on. Are the firefighting resources on the island adequate?
Also, they didn't make a claim on the other fire because the 'excess' was too high? Not sure I understand. "Excess liability" is another layer of coverage that sits on top of your normal liability, akin to umbrella coverage. Then again, I am not Australian, so maybe the terms have different meanings to you...
