Based on the 2018 & 2019 figures, estimated occupancy during the last two weeks in February would be around 71%.
To qualify for the $1500 Job Keeper, occupancy, at best during the last week in March, must have been 41% or lower.
To the best of my knowledge G8 have no centre's charging daily fees above the hourly cap.
A centre with 100 licensed places trading at 71% occupancy, with fees of $100 per session, under the new government offering will receive $17,750 per week, plus the $750 job keeper allowance. Staff required, depending on room configurations would be around 11, generating another $8,250. Total government contribution per week $26,000. Under CCS system, income for the same period would have been $35,000. Shortfall of $9,500 per week.
G8 are very good at working their staff to child ratios and this will be a critical factor in ensuring that no excess staff are carried during low occupancy times (early morning and late afternoons).
They have spoken several times times about valuing their staff, especially their early childhood teachers who they are paying well above the award. It maybe that some of those additional benefits, over the award payments, staff discounts on childcare and various other options offered to staff and parents will have to be revisited.
This government described the CCS system yesterday, as cumbersome and complex, not that long ago they were blowing about how much needed and wonderful the CCS Jobs for Families package was. They sold the early childhood sector a Jobs for Families disaster. How good is marketing!
