If there's one thing this shows, it's the danger of companies becoming overly reliant on trade with authoritarian regimes. TWE may not be the worst, but it's 11.3 per cent share price drop today shows traders and investors believe it is somewhat vulnerable.
One realises some will say 'this is impossible' or 'mainland China has the world's biggest population (until India overtakes it) and a huge middle class' but it's time for Australian businesses to heed the implied call of ScoMo and his colleagues and begin diversification away from mainland China.
GNC did it successfully, so TWE may be able to also achieve it. I'm not suggesting it's easy, and there'll be short term pain, but if one sleeps with dogs...
