I agree that the 50% figure put out by Viceroy is very suss. It would be very hard for someone to have made that claim without a number of questionable assumptions made after some random sampling.
I have heard one of Viceroy's team speak on a podcast about their approach, and it did not impress me at all. In describing one of their short attacks on a healthcare stock, the guy could not even accurately describe the key product the company made. Knowing the business, I recall it wasn't even them that started the short attack, it was done by another group and they just piled on after. Hearing the guy speak about it though, you'd think he was making it out as though it was due to a result of original thinking and research.
I am under no illusions that TYR is in big trouble, VR is just piling on.
