I started playing it pretty early so it wasn't too hard to get to that position. You definitely don't need to spend money to get high up - I haven't spent any. I'm sure they would've got revenue from me from watching all of the ads! Obviously there are people that do like to spend money which is good.
@mggb I'm just lucky to have a bit of time on my hands. Makes sense what you're saying about Facebook and FarmVille. It'll be interesting to see what it's like by the end of Early Access.
I noticed on the Leaderboard there's someone called "Stonks" haha
