The following an article on Type2 DM in children during the COVID-19 pandemic in the USA. It’s scary that there were more than double the cases presenting to hospital with an initial diagnosis of Type 2 DM & more severe symptoms in kids than in 2019:

I think they are looking at diet, obesity & sedentary lifestyle during lockdown to be a major factor, but the CDC are also tracking more severe symptoms in kids & the effects of the virus in COVID-19.

It’s already known there is a link between new onset diabetes & COVID-19 in adults plus kidney disease in previously healthy people prior to infection.

It‘s possible now that the numbers of patients with undiagnosed diabetes are far greater than the data used in the modelling presentation for PromarkerD.

I’ll take another look at ADA conference today, as quite a big theme with COVID-19 and diabetes, which has been found to be the biggest risk factor for severe COVID-19 in multiple studies.
