Yeah true, a lot of advisers sell their clients on it "they won't accept the average" and claim it's a value add for clients who don't know any better, but as an example if they came to MFG anywhere in the past decade and didn't annually rebalance, their clients are worse than average. The ones who are jumping now have promised something they couldn't deliver, so they'll likely sell it to clients as a prudent move to cover up their fail.
In reality just taking the index and doing nothing would actually be better than average because the flows show many get in after rises and out after falls.
