I was talking to a guy at work who's from PNG. Even he said he hopes to see a deal done with a good mining company, not the Chinese. He said things seemed to be improving with regards to the local Bougainville population and the PNG government although there's still a huge lack of trust with PNG government.
It would take a pretty big investment to get the mine up and running again but the money would be very good for the people of PNG (if they can keep a lid on corruption)
