It could be after a flurry of previous discussions, Merck called IMU bluff and said something to the effect of, 'Cancel the deal then, if you want'. And IMU left and decided to cancel the deal as offered by Merck. Then send a fax or text or email to inform them of such. But since Merck HQ was in the US and asleep yesterday, they woke up to find the said communications. And then send out a response to IMU who now have to pause the trading to discuss further. Maybe Merck is now saying, please we don't mean it literally and so on
I need to stress again. Until it is all clarified officially, all things said by me are just speculation.
