To me a Pause in Trading suggests something unanticipated has happened. An acquistion of another company would more likely have gone straight to a Trading Halt as everything would be lined up ready to be announced.
Hopefully a Takeover - given the sharp fall in share price it would be a very opportunistic time for a Private Equity bid, which as we know is when they like to make them.
