I think you may be mis-reading that as present tense, where it should be future tense.
The full sentence used in the PCL announcement was "The Company will however provide interim updates as the various hydrocarbon play types identified thus far are matured sufficiently."
I read that as saying updates will be provided as the various hydrocarbon play types mature, as in future tense.
