note your diagram has the enrichment above the primary zone (fresh rock ) and at the depth you show in your first diagram I am betting is is fresh rock at 200mbs as that seems well below the level of normal weathering of around 100mbs
Where the gold is highlighted in red in your first diagram I am betting was deposited via a hydrothermal process , mesothermal or epithermal coming up from below rather than coming down from above
I do agree though that Penny could well be open at depth , and suspect that was why RMS paid so much for it , but not because of Supergene enrichment ,
note your diagram has the enrichment above the primary zone...
