It's in Commonwealth waters outside the NSW banned zone, so all they actually need to do is apply via NOPTA. There's currently no grounds for the title to be rejected and the decision will be made by a Federal body.

There are no people in the immediate vicinity, the drilling starts 26km off shore and beyond. With the cost of gas prices and living costs the majority of people would actually support the Project.

Also the Federal Government would gain money via tax revenue for the next 10 - 20 years with little to no effort/impact. It's also seen as a cleaner alternative for generating energy which Australia desperately needs.
