Read the previous announcements everyone; this was always part of the plan. It works, they know it from trials, but they want scientific backup for physicians etc so it's not perceived as a "gadget". This was always to run in parallel with launch. It's good news IMO and confirmation that they are executing their plan. The Aussie launch will be PR-based, I think it will be prevalent in women's magazines etc and will cause a big stir, but ultimately, to make it in other markets (and to get past the stir) they will need a scientific study. That is the purpose of this announcement. Also, the results will be a SP catalyst. I see this as a very positive announcement.
