Gees Watso, living in WA I am amazed you can claim that
"to date, renewables have been an unmitigated disaster(apart from hydro, and some geothermal)" .
I am also in WA and rooftop solar is a very successful example of renewables. Even without the RECs or the piddling WA gov FIT, the roof top solar PV can produce energy slightly cheaper than Synergy can provide it, and with no future price increases for solar.
