yes - too clever by half

reminds watso a bit of the "multifunction polis" - which was also going to be built in south australia.

anyway, the following link has a bit of a story

    http://www.climatespectator.com.au/commentary/cheap-and-green-energy-miners

    one comment was as follows

    No development partners

    No cost analysis

    No funding arrangements

    No offtake agreements

Ironically the uranium produced by Olympic Dam will be sold to China and India to generate cheap baseload power.

Interestingly, the Chicago-Rockford International Airport announced today plans to build a 20-MW Solar Array.

    Projected cost: over US$130 million

We understand the requirements will compose a hybrid of sources but if the "Big Australian's" 700MW capacity expansion plans were entirely solar that would approximate a capital expenditure of $4.7 BILLION.

"...Kallis describes it as a $1.5 billion project, but the costings are not very exact at the moment..."

    Indeed.

And, at a little over $2.4 million per MW, one would say alarmingly cheap.

Perhaps it would have been pertinent to inquire of Mr Kallis exactly what the $1.5 billion would be spent on and whether he was submitting his "clean energy precinct" 'vision' for funding consideration to the newly created A$10 Billion Clean Energy Fund?
