to date, renewables have been an unmitigated disaster(apart from hydro, and some geothermal) .
funny - after watso made the earlier post, his mind wandered a bit and thought about some renewables - and thought of carnegie (cwe) .
watso lives in west australia, and early on, he followed carnegie (it was called carnegie minerals at the time) - and they took on an idea from some guy called burns (he was probably the head honcho). 10 years later, the company is still frigging around, with the same idea
lucky that carnegie did not take on one of burns's other ideas - that had something to do with super dooper fast air travel.
beware of west australian companies, with technology.
orbital energy company is still trying to make that breakthrough - but sarich made his money - when it promised so much. then there was some guy who invented an automatic iron (it won the inventor of the year award) - and that collapsed in a heap - the list is endless
