From my perspective I can afford the cost of the Chemo.

I agree with your comments that would I pay $20,000 to gain one extra year with Bella? Possibly.

Do I want her to go through the negative side-effects of the Chemotherapy for her to have one extra year of life? She would not know why she feels so bad. She would go to the vet each week for 16 weeks - plus any other visits to deal with side-effects and obtain other medications to combat these side-effects.

So the answer for me would be sadly - No. As much as it would pain me to do it I would make her life as comfortable and as high quality as possible while we can.

So, as you say, there would be a larger percentage of owners who would be more than happy to pay for the Monepantel drug to maintain a better quality of life.

I haven't been told what the cost would be for me as an owner but I think that your figure of $5k is probably in the ball-park.

On a side note. My local vet did a fantastic job in picking up Bella's lymphoma. But then she referred me to a 'specialist' next door at the Animal Hospital. So another appointment where the 'specialist' ran through the options on the photo that I posted, plus gave me a few other pieces of paper to read. Cost: $280. Seriously.
