    I also struggle with this ethical issue. Patients on STRIKE who receive the placebo will be on the Standard of Care treatment, as such, in theory, they are no worse off than they would otherwise have been. But in the case of ALS/MND, there IS NO standard of care that derives a benefit for the patient. Patients in the trial on the placebo will be substantially worse off - on the ALSFRS-R score possibly around .5 pt worse per month - for about 10 months in Australia. Those 5 points may see the patient in a wheelchair, or incubated, a year or two earlier than would otherwise be the case.

    Maybe Berry Consultants have the answer.
