It seems, and these announcements are never unambiguous, that participants were actually healthy (ie. particpants, not patients) and they took urine from the six (which would be effectively bacteria free in the healthy) and put it in petri dish with e.coli and then tracked the fate of e.coli, noting the e.coli will grow by replication (every 20 to 40 mins) and the R327 will kill off some, so I presume the net growth rate was a reduction in cell count over hours, like the graph from a pure petri dish of direct application of anti-biotics. So it is potential the announcement suggests they saw the nice blue line in the graph generally occuring in the participants' urine in petri dish.
So we really need to see a cohort of actual UTI sufferers split into std treatment and R327 to see if R327 does what we're led to believe.
