A few more details about Terumo…

In today’s newsletter we learned for the first time that the three unidentified products included with TPM/propofol in the R & D collaboration agreement are indicated for pain.

Terumo has a strong focus on pain relief. Its corporate slogan is “Terumo’s unique technology makes medical treatment kinder and gentler”. Elsewhere the company claims “For many years Terumo's challenging goal is and remains: Less pain every day ...” Terumo has developed the world’s thinnest pen needle to provide virtually painless insulin injection.

Terumo has increased its range of opioid products in recent years. After launching a morphine product in 2005, the company entered an agreement in 2009 to co-promote opioid products manufactured by Takeda. In 2013 Terumo launched a methadone product and fentanyl and oxycodone products were added in 2014. Marketing authorisation appears to be for Japan only.

While Terumo doesn’t appear to sell propofol, it does sell the infusion pumps, syringes etc used to administer propofol.
