The announcement seems to put blame for failure mainly on the company's inability to shrink the TPM-Oxymorphone patch to about the size of the existing Japanese fentanyl patch. The existing Durotep MT 16.8 milligram fentanyl patch measures about 6x7 cm. That is NOT a small patch.

However, this is a three day patch, so a one day version could be one third the size, or so it would seem.

That would make a one day fentanyl patch about credit card size....

Jev, a three day 16.8 mg fentanyl patch measures ~ 6 x 7 cm (42 sq cm) and, as you say, a one day patch could be one third the size of the three day patch (~ 14 sq cm?). Which you say would make a one day fentanyl patch about credit card size….

Now I don’t know about your credit cards, but mine measures 8.4 x 5.2 cm (43.6 sq cm).

By way of comparison, the oxymorphone patch tested in 2013 was 7.8 x 5.2 cm (40.5 sq cm) - so, slightly smaller than my credit card. That patch was reported to have delivered up to a level equivalent to 40 mg Oxymorphone ER.

I believe the existing one day fentanyl patch in Japan is Hisamitsu’s Fentos tape. It now ranges in dosage from .5mg. By way of example, the 2mg (one day fentanyl patch) is 3.17 x 3.17 cm (~10 sq cm); the 4mg patch is 4.48 x 4.48 cm (~20 sq cm). The 4mg Fentos Tape patch is equivalent to 80mg Oxycodone CR daily dose, which is equivalent to 40mg Oxymorphone ER daily dose.
