The AJM management established their credentials for meeting deadlines in 1991 when developing a now major coal concession in Indonesia, they made the commitment and booked their first shipment of coal months before the coal handling and port facility was built or the 70km haul road from the mine to the port, half through a swamp, was anywhere near completion.
Their thinking was that they wanted to establish a reputation for meeting their commitments, even if it was at the risk of having a huge bill for demurrage. It put everyone under enormous pressure to meet the deadline and the shipment was made, not quite on time, but it was the beginning of them earning a reputation as a reliable supplier absolutely committed to making good on their obligations, something of utmost important for power stations.
