I can assure you I have said "more than once" here, that the lithium mining sector (rock or brine) has a poor history of bringing on new supply, suggesting that one should only expect 80% of the of announced nameplate (paper) capacity to come online. Its a little disappointing that PLS has to be the focus this time, but mostly for reasons out of their control.

I see SQM took a stake in a domestic Oz explorer last week or the week before. Covering their ass, as potential higher taxes and water use restrictions in Chile would be a death knell for traditional brine operations, or severely curtail production, let alone expansion.

PLS's announcement today increased the LCE shortage by ~8kt, not large in the grand scheme, but nonetheless, enough LCE units to produce ~150 EV's, but where's my lithium says the middle kingdom...
