I’ve had this type of call before with another stock I held that was in the middle of a takeover attempt - RAP. Similar to here with ESS. The initial offer for RAP was considered low by a significant proportion of shareholders. The vibe was that there was a significant chance the offer would be rejected by shareholders. When I received the call I gave my opinion that I would vote “no” at the RAP offer price but would be willing to accept an offer that was a bit greater and gave my price. I suspect others did something similar. Soon afterwards a revised higher offer was made for RAP and the takeover went through. I feel there are a lot of similarities here with ESS. The fact these calls are being made makes me think they probably realise there is a significant chance this offer will fail at the current price and they are trying to get a better gauge of shareholders opinions. Ie it makes me think they are not confident it will pass. It makes sense to get an idea whether a scheme offer will fail before going through with the scheme as it takes quite a while to set it all up. If Tianqi really want ESS they are better off offering a price that is likely to succeed and IMO this is what these calls are about. Is the 50c offer likely to succeed ? With this information they can either raise the offer price or pull out. If we are confident that it’s worth much more to Tianqi than 50c then they should be willing to offer a higher price. If we a wrong and this is all Tianqi is willing to offer then negative responses from the calls could lead Tianqi to pull out. IMO I believe Tianqi are willing to offer a higher price and won’t pull out. This is all my opinion. If I get a call ( I missed 2 calls today ) I will be letting them know that I am unlikely to accept 50c. GLTAH.
