Could you provide some evidence for the above statement.
My understanding is magnesium carbonate does not dissolve in water, but will dissolve and effervesce in dilute acids.
from Wikipedia: Magnesite consists of white trigonal crystals. The anhydrous salt is practically insoluble in water, acetone, and ammonia.
