Below is a pic of the Lake Cowal mine in NSW where the open pit abuts the lake and is separated by a structural bund on the surface to protect the Lake and the flora/fauna residing there. In this instance much of the gold ore resource dips under the lake and the owners of the mine have undertaken study work to go underground (underneath the lake) shown in plan below. This may or may not be possible for PMT depending on the orebody and other geotechnical characteristics (host rock type/strength etc). It is also possible to drain the lake although this obviously creates far more disturbance. Mt Gibson's Koolan Island iron ore mine off Western Australia does the same thing next the ocean with a seawall. Many mining operations do this, just means the Lake must be taken into account - certainly doesn't isolate the ore under the lake. This will all be determined as the study work is completed, for now they are just building the Resource.
