You are correct fires are just part of the ecological life cycle. Even more so in the boreal forest since there are many pyrophytic plants which only germinate at high temperature. Also because of the normally low air temperatures even in the short summers, vegetation takes a long time to grow back so any fires effectively produce future fire breaks for a long time. The temperatures are still quite cool lots of ice cover remains in James and Hudson's Bays. Many of the fires will only likely be put out by rain which will come as it warms up in summer. I doubt that the provincial or federal government are fighting either the fires which are close (more 50k) to Corvette just because there are no nearby communities and they likely have their hands full with more pressing fire issues which are closer to populations. They will start to fight any fires which begin threaten the hydroelectric generating station which is quite close by (about 50km northeast of Corvette).
