Chasen, who will chair PrecisionHawk’s advisory board, says in a phone interview that it’s a move months in the making.“I’ve been doing a lot of high level work, helping with sales… but I’m on the road a lot,” Chasen says, noting that he and the board have spent that past few months looking for someone who can take on the CEO role and “handle the day to day in the office.”

Chasen joined PrecisionHawk as CEO in the middle of 2017.

Norrod, who couldn’t be reached to comment, praised Chasen in the blog post.“Michael grew the company significantly and helped pioneer best practices in drone-based geospatial data analytics across multiple industries,” Norrod said.

Chasen isn’t going away. In addition to PrecisionHawk, he’ll keep up his industry-wide activities, such as chairing the FAA Drone Advisory Committee.

“A lot of work I’m doing with the regulatory bodies, of course, helps PrecisionHawk at the same time,” he says.

The company recently moved into a new downtown Raleigh headquarters. And it's been growing.

Chasen said last month that the company had 100 employees and would continue to add to the headcount in 2020.

And he said acquisitions could continue to be part of that strategy.
