thyssenkrupp are definitely a great partner to have on board.
I don't think it's that the market never warmed to them - EGR does have a very substantial German shareholder base after all. The issue I guess is that TK signed a binding offtake agreement for Epanko flake concentrate many years ago now, a project that has long since gone cold.
Things have changed for EGR in the intervening period too - with SPG production soon to commence and coating capacity a potential future addition, I would imagine that EGR may be reluctant to part with Epanko concentrate. Then again, the EGR flowsheet is able to accomodate a wide range of graphite ore and EGR will be amongst the first generation of Western SPG producers through which flake concentrate will pass. The value add for capturing the downstream processing chain up to AAM production is HUGE.
TK, much like POSCO, will surely be very interested in the fines byproducts of SPG production, as @spid81 mentioned.
