Fernit..... you forget one thing. With a new drug treating a previously untreated disease, of course there needs to be a comparison, 'the control', to show the efficacy of said new drug/treatment. However stroke has been with us for a long long time so the control has been studied also for that very long long time. The medical professionals knows the timescales, improvement cycles and markers for untreated or currently available treatment for recovery from stroke...... That's their control. If afamelanotide reduces that timescale and/or improves the recovery, then that is a win in my view. In other words, they already have decades of 'control' patients.
