Satire, on the other hand can be quite witty and entertaining. Unfortunately, as you yourself have attested, that is not the response style you chose, so your indignation seems a bit misplaced.
As to your "partly self-deprecating" joke, now that's just plain weird - but don't bother sifting through the dictionary, I'm sure it all makes sense in your head.
