So if CSL wants to get the gearing back from 1.5 to 1.0 why is it spending borrowed money buying back shares? This increases gearing. To me it's only giving shareholders the impression that the shares are worth more because there are less shares. Fine. But as the company is taking on more debt to give this impression- which will have to be repaid someday from shareholders funds. I suspect a lot of people believe this already. I have less faith in CSL capital management now than I did in Brian McNamee's days.
