Not sure they had any choice - once they had the results they needed to do initial analysis and inform the market (and prevent any insider trading, though that didn't seem to work).
Anyway, the announcement is for top-line results, with further analysis to come. As has been pointed out, it may well be that further analysis shows the legacy effect distorted the results - making them appear to be less statistically significant than they actually were.
