why do you think the nickel price has dropped on news that conversion of NPI to matte is possible. The big news is that Tsingshan says it can convert NPI which it makes cheaply in Indo to matte. so if npi can be used for EVs then there's the potential that there's no big type 1 nickel deficit coming. so the long term nickel narrative is arguably dead.
