1. the management team would have had a good idea of fair market pricing prior to the auction. It’s hard to say whether we would’ve gotten more or less if we went to auction in a more competitive environment, but I suspect the most interested parties tabled offers beforehand. In the end, we ended up getting a price management thought was a good price and let’s not forget it was 15-20% what the spot market price was indicating.
2. Selling prior to auction doesn’t indicate weakness in the market, it just suggests that the offer we received would’ve been more or less in line with, or better than, what we think we would’ve got at auction at that point in time.
3. A lot of people are getting this assessment deeply wrong. The sale price doesn’t indicate the expected SC6 price at delivery date. The sale price is reflective of today’s prices. By purchasing now with a December delivery date, the buyer is hedging against price rises and likely anticipating that come December 2024, prices will be higher than they are now. If the buyers expect they can obtain SC6 for $1200 USD when December 2024 rolls around, why not wait until then? They either expect the price will be higher by Dec 24 or that supply will not be available (which in turn will have a positive effect on the price).
4. See point 3. The sale was made at today’s prices. All that can be implied from the sale, is that the buyer expects prices end of 2024 will be higher than today’s prices, which works in line with Xi’s comments.
