Where else on earth do you have 40% of a community's land declared a National Park? Kangaroo Island.
With that, comes a huge responsibility. The Parks authority as the legislated custodians, have an on-going commitment to maintain this asset in a fit and proper way and in doing so, the protection of the community as well.
On the morning - daylight - of the first fire, a spotter plane was deployed after lightening strikes were witnessed earlier in the night. A fire was identified, about the size of a football oval. With little wind at the time, it was a fairly straight forward "grade & starve", provided immediate action was taken.
In summary - I won't go into the nitty gritty - it took "Parks" three hours to give permission to access the fire. In that time, the wind had increased and shifted. A catastrophic event then unfolded.
The case for a class action against the Government is undeniable.
It will depend whether the Government accepts responsibility, or orchestrates a cover up, complete with sacrificial lambs from CFS & Parks Authority. KPT shareholders will see a return, but it could be years away.
